History of the campsite
"With a west-facing location on an east coast, Ebeltoft Strand Camping is in the Super League among the country's campgrounds"
The campgrounds are long and narrow. Approx. 800 x 110 metres with an area of approx. 7.7 ha. Located directly along Ebeltoft Inlet at the entrance to Ebeltoft Town. The soil is predominantly sandy, with a light layer of topsoil, so short tent pegs are not enough for windy conditions. The central part of the campgrounds consists of pine, oak, birch and hawthorn. There are no plants in the north and south except for dog rose, which is present in limited numbers.
Even before the war, people in Denmark use to cycle to Vibæk and pitch their tents. The campground was initially planned for establishment in 1939, but it was postponed due to war. The Tourist Association was given an area for tent pitching and received approval from the Danish National Trust for the construction of a campground in 1947. However, funds were scarce. In November 1953, a proposal was made that the pump on the campgrounds had to be repaired. Estimates were requested for a blockhouse with toilets and washrooms along with the erection of signs. A waste disposal area was established, and a supervisor was employed.
Many visitors, including motorists, found their way to the campsite at Vibæk and in 1955, the Outdoor Council recommended the supervision of the campsites and the use of camping passes. Ludvig Andersen becomes 1st camp director.
In 1964, the 10th anniversary was celebrated.
In 1968, winter camping was established.
In 1978, tents and caravans are withdraw from the beach.
In 1996, the toilet building in the north with "music under the shower".
The northern half was created in 1959 by the Federation of Danish Motorists (FDM). In 1987, the FDM campgrounds was bought by the then Ebeltoft Municipality. The two campgrounds were then merged into Vibæk Camping, which in 2006 changed its name to Ebeltoft Strand Camping.
In 2010, an outdoor swimming pool area was built. For the 2011 season, the south service building was completely renovated and in 2012, two service buildings in the middle of the site were demolished to make way for a new large, modern service building. Today, the site has been renovated and is a modern, well-run site that belongs to the elite of Danish campgrounds, where you can expect a warm welcome!
In January 2020, Lars and Rikke Bendixen bought the campground, and in 2022 they moved in and now run the daily business.
Camping Outdoor Danmark awarded the campground four stars in 2019.
