The Old Town is a great opportunity to make a trip back in time and experience, feel, try and taste hundreds of years of history.
Take the family on a journey through time and experience time-typical people who can tell about life in the three areas: 1864, 1927 and 1974.
The Old Town - 1864
The oldest part of The Old Town is showing a Danish viser en dansk market town incl. houses, gardens, shops and workshops just as they were when H.C. Andersen lived.
The buildings originate from cities throughout Denmark and have been rebuilt in the Old Town. The oldest house is from 1550.
The Old Town - 1927
From here you move on to 1927, when the city has become modern with cars, sidewalks, street lamps and gable advertisements. Among other things, explore the car workshop, the telephone exchange and the post office.
The Old Town - 1974
In the 1974 quarter, one experiences how welfare and the liberation of women left their mark on the everyday life of ordinary Danes. Here you can, among others, visit the nuclear family, the collective, the Greenlandic student and the six Turkish guest workers. The neighborhood also houses workshops, shops and Café Bonnich, where you can enjoy a cake made from a time typical recipe and a cup of hot chocolate.
